Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you?
Port Arthur is an easy 1 hour, 15 minute drive from Hobart airport and 1 hour, 30 minutes from Hobart city. The cabin is a 5 minute drive from all the best peninsula attractions including the Port Arthur Historic site, Pennicotts Wilderness Journeys, The start of the Three Capes Track and the waters of Stewarts Bay and Remarkable cave. Fortescue Bay and Cape Raoul are both close by.
Although there is a dirt road up the hill to the house, it is perfectly fine for 2wd and hire cars.
We recommend that you arrive during daylight hours to avoid the many pademelons on the drive up to the house.
Entry to the house is a via a lock box and instructions will be provided when you book.
What time is check in/check out?
Check in is from 2pm and check out is 10am.
How many people can stay?
A maximum of 4 people. There is a queen size bed in one upstairs bedroom and two single beds in the other. There is a baby gate at the top of the stairs if needed.
Is there a shop nearby?
It is best to pick up your supplies from the supermarkets at Sorell on your way through as there are no large supermarkets on the Tasman Peninsula.
The Port Arthur General Store is the best choice for anything you’ve left behind and also offers some take away dinner options. There are also two IGA’s at Nubeena which is a 15 minute drive away.
Are you pet friendly?
Yes! A maximum of two dogs are welcome and we would ask you to keep our wildlife and sheep safe by keeping your dogs inside the large, fenced inner yard, with the gate kept closed. We have a dog bed and dog bowls. We will send you a message when you book and there is a small added fee.
Due to our unique bird population we unfortunately can’t accommodate cats.
Are you child friendly?
Yes, but do consider if the property will suit your needs. Children need to be supervised at all times as there are two unfenced dams on the property, as well as stairs and a fireplace inside.
What can I cook?
There is a full kitchen, with a gas stove, electric oven, fridge and microwave. We generally supply a great selection of teas (bags and looseleaf), coffee (instant and plunger), sugar, oils, spices and a lovely herb garden outside where you can pick your own selection. We also offer some pantry staples on an honesty system, in case you find yourself missing something important!
Is the bathroom outside?
Yes and no! The beautiful bath is outside on the covered deck but the shower and toilet are inside for your comfort.
Can I see wildlife and stars?
During the day you will see many native Tasmanian birds and can enjoy the peaceful sheep wandering the paddocks. At night time wildlife abounds on the property and there are many pademelons at night (please close the gate at night so they don’t eat the garden!). If you are lucky you may also spot echidnas, wombats or even a quoll. We have not seen a devil yet but we’ve heard them! As one of the most southern most spots in Australia the stars are absolutely stunning on a clear night. You will also see the flash of the Tasman lighthouse keeping ships safe at night.
Are you available for location shoots/collaborations?
Yes, we would love to hear your ideas so please get in touch to discuss pricing and terms.
What about events?
We do not offer events at present but may do so in future, so please let us know if this is something you’d be interested in.
